Research at Uppsala University

Seabased works in close cooperation with researchers at the Division for Electricity, Department of Engineering Sciences, at Uppsala University, Sweden. The group has world leading expertise in generator construction. The generators are optimized for different sea conditions with a world-class, multi physical simulation tool developed by the Uppsala researchers. It calculates motions, forces, electromagnetic fields and heat conduction in different wave climates by solving fundamental physical equations.

The Division is headed by professor Mats Leijon who, together with associate professor Hans Bernhoff, founded the company Seabased AB in 2001. The research at Uppsala University is funded by, among others, Swedish utility Vattenfall (Europe´s fourth biggest producer of electricity), the Swedish Energy Agency, the Ångpanneföreningen research foundation, Gothenburg Energy and world leading Dutch cable manufacturer Draka Holding N.V.

Pilot Project

A wave research park on the Swedish west coast has been initiated by Uppsala University. The project started in 2006 and is expected to remain in operation until 2014. Read more: Wave Power Project -Lysekil
